Alzheimer’s & Brain Awareness Month

By Steve Lorberbaum 6  am On

June, in addition to being National Safety Month, is also National Alzheimer’s & Brain Awareness Month. So this week we salute a local group in Bethesda called Friends Club. Friends Club is located at 6601 Bradley Blvd, Bethesda, Md 20817, and has been providing valuable services and support groups to Alzheimer’s patients for many years. Please view their website at: www.friendsclubbethesda.org or email [email protected] for more information, and ask them about the Memory Café!

What is Friends Club?

Friends Club is a therapeutic social program designed to enhance the lives of men living with Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia. We bring together active gentlemen in the early-to-mid-stages of dementia in a caring, safe and secure environment. Our program is specially designed to meet the social and emotional needs of men who are experiencing memory loss. We are a non-profit, non-sectarian organization.

Assisting Hands of Potomac can also help you manage care for your loved one. Call 301-363-2580 and ask for Kathleen.

More on Alzheimer’s Awareness

Uncover the truth about Alzheimer’s disease during Alzheimer’s & Brain Awareness Month.
June is Alzheimer’s & Brain Awareness Month, and the Alzheimer’s Association® needs your help to uncover the truth about Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias. Everyone who has a brain is at risk to develop Alzheimer’s, a disease that is often misunderstood. Did you know:

  • Alzheimer’s is fatal. It kills more than breast and prostate cancer combined.
  • Alzheimer’s is not normal aging. It’s a progressive brain disease without any cure.
  • Alzheimer’s is more than memory loss. It appears through a variety of signs and symptoms.

During the month of June, the Alzheimer’s Association asks you to uncover the truth about Alzheimer’s and take action.

Ways to participate in June:

Read some of the critical truths about Alzheimer’s at alz.org/abam.
